The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed a report claiming that a traditional ceremony in the state descended into chaos, with gunmen abducting 8 people and injuring 12 others.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the report is misleading and mischievous, aimed at discrediting professional police action, causing tension in the state, seeking public sympathy, and distracting ongoing police investigations.
Ikenga explained that the suspects were arrested at the ceremony venue after attempts by the police to get them to answer for a petition against them. They have since been debriefed and released to a reliable surety for further necessary police action.
The police command urges members of the public to disregard the report, describing it as “mischievous, untrue, and a product of fiction.”
