President Tinubu Approves Dismissal of Workers with Fake Degrees from Benin and Togo

The Nigerian government has sanctioned the dismissal of public and private sector workers using fake degree certificates from institutions in Benin and Togo.

Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, announced this following a federal executive council meeting led by President Bola Tinubu. This decision comes after an investigation by undercover journalist Umar Audu exposed the widespread use of unaccredited degrees.

The government plans to collaborate with agencies like NYSC and Immigration to enforce the dismissal, targeting thousands of individuals with unrecognized qualifications from non-licensed institutions in both countries. Mamman noted, “And from 2017, anybody who attended a university solely run in English is wasting his time because it’s not an approved university. That is their policy.”
