Gashua, Yusufari, and several other communities in Yobe State have been ravaged by a prolonged downpour that lasted for 16 hours, leaving a trail of destruction and despair in its wake. The torrential rain, which was accompanied by light intermittent showers, caused widespread damage to mud houses, displacing numerous residents and inundating streets and farmlands.

Reports indicate that the disaster has resulted in loss of lives, although the exact number of fatalities is yet to be confirmed. The affected communities are in dire need of assistance, prompting an appeal to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), development partners, and individuals to provide aid to the victims.

The Local Emergency Management Committee and Local Government Community Development Officers have been urged to collaborate in assessing the extent of the damage and compiling a comprehensive record of losses. This will enable the relevant authorities to respond swiftly and effectively to the crisis.

The Yobe State Government, Federal Government, Local Government Areas, NGOs, and individuals have been commended for their support and assistance to other communities that have faced similar disasters. Their prompt response is eagerly anticipated in this time of need.
