Again, Police summon NLC President Ajaero, over new charge

The Nigeria Police Force has once again issued a summons to the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, along with the union’s Secretary General, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja.

The summons, dated August 28, 2024, comes from the Office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja, and was signed by the Commissioner of Police (OPS), CP Ibitoye Rufus Alajide.

The police called the two labour leaders in for questioning related to accusations of “criminal intimidation, malicious property damage, and actions likely to disrupt public peace.”

The letter indicates that Ajaero’s name emerged during investigations into these alleged offenslces.

According to the summons, Ajaero and Ugboaja are requested to appear for an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police at the Force Intelligence Department’s headquarters in Abuja.

The interview is scheduled for Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 11 a.m. The police also provided a contact person for further communication upon their arrival.

This latest invitation follows an earlier one from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), where Ajaero was summoned on charges including “criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.”
