The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been embroiled in a deepening crisis following the conduct of secret and fraudulent primary elections for local government positions.
According to reports, the party’s leadership, including Governor Hope Uzodimma, supervised the clandestine primaries, which were held in private residences and lacked transparency.
Aspirants and stakeholders have expressed outrage over the process, alleging that they were forced to pay exorbitant fees for nomination forms only to be disenfranchised by the party’s leadership.
The Imo PDP has seized on the crisis, describing the APC’s actions as “undemocratic, fraudulent, and cruel.”
In a statement, Lancelot Obiaku, State Publicity Secretary of the Imo PDP, said: “This is the latest in many of Imo APC’s undemocratic moves instructed by Gov. Uzodimma that also reeks of inalienable inclination to fraud, injustice, and cruelty.”
The PDP has contrasted the APC’s actions with its own peaceful and transparent primary elections, urging the people of Imo State to reject the APC and embrace the PDP as the most organized, democratic, and people-driven political party in the State.
The crisis has sparked fears of further divisions within the APC and raises questions about the party’s commitment to democratic principles.
