A former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kola Ologbondiyan, has called on the acting National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagun, to resign from his position so as to resolve the crisis of the party.

Ologbondiyan, in an interview with our correspondent , argued that Damagum’s resignation from the chairmanship position would pave the way for necessary reforms and restore the stability of the PDP.

Some members of the party have been calling for the resignation of Damagum, as 60 PDP members of the House of Representatives previously called on him to step aside, accusing him of being in bed with the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Ologbondiyan, in his call, blamed Damagum for the crisis plaguing the party, insisting that if the PDP must be at peace and remain a strong opposition party, the acting national chairman must step aside and revert to his position as the Deputy National Chairman, North.

Ologbondiyan, who was the spokesman for the Atiku /Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation during the 2023 election, argued that for genuine reconciliation to take place, a new national chairman from the North-Central zone must emerge.

He said the zone had been denied the position after the suspension of Iyorchia Ayu.

Ologbondiyan said, “There is no debating the fact that for the PDP to be able to achieve its purpose, the course of justice must be pursued and must be followed. Damagum has taken over the responsibilities of a substantive chairman that ought to have come from the North-Central.

“If he had reverted to his own office and allowed the North-Central to produce a substantive chairman, some of the major issues in the party would have been resolved.”
