BREAKING: Nigerian Army Arrests Notorious Gunrunners, Recovers Cache of Arms in Plateau State

In a major breakthrough, troops of Operation Safe Haven, a division of the Nigerian Army, have arrested five notorious gunrunners and recovered a large quantity of arms and ammunition in Plateau State.

The operation, which took place on September 16 and 17, 2024, targeted the hideout of a gunrunner identified as Mohammed Sani at Naraguta Mining Area in Bayameni along Bauchi Road in Jos North LGA.

According to Major Stephen Nantip Zhakom, Military Public Information Officer, Operation Safe Haven, the recovered items include:

  • 2 AK-47 rifles
  • 1 Fabrique Nationale automatic rifle
  • 14 AK-47 magazines
  • 1 Fabrique Nationale magazine
  • 5,316 rounds of 7.62 MM (Special) ammunition
  • 98 rounds of 7.62 MM (NATO) ammunition
  • 43 rounds of 9 MM ammunition

The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation to gather intelligence on other members of the syndicate and disrupt the gunrunning supply chain.

This operation is part of Operation Safe Haven’s ongoing efforts to mop up illegal arms and ammunition in the region, ensuring a safer and more secure environment for citizens.
