Anambra State – In a major crackdown on criminal elements, the Anambra Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered a large quantity of gunpowder, a locally-made pistol, and live ammunition.
The successful operation was carried out by the Police-led Joint Security Force and the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) in separate raids.
On September 22, 2024, operatives intercepted a suspect carrying three bags of garri (cassava flakes) in Aguata, concealing a large quantity of gunpowder. The suspect, currently in custody, was en route to a criminal camp to deliver groceries and explosives.
In another operation, SPACS raided a hideout in Oba Idemili South LGA on September 25, 2024, arresting Nelson Wisdom from Etsako East, Edo State, and recovering a locally fabricated pistol with two live ammunition.
Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, assured that the police will continue to disrupt criminal plans in the state.
“The command will sustain its operational onslaught against criminal elements,” CP Itam said.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that all suspects will face prosecution upon conclusion of investigations.
