Anambra government said seven suspects were arrested in recent raid on fake manufacturing facilities in Nkpor, Idemili North LGA, and Onitsha as part of ongoing crackdown on producers of fake wines and other alcoholic drinks in the state.
Hundreds of fake wines and other drinks were also discovered during the raid, the Managing Director of Operations for Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), Mr Celestine Anere who revealed the arrests said.
He vowed to eradicate fake drink production across all markets in Anambra State in an interview in Awka on Sunday.
Anere assured residents that individuals involved in producing fake drinks would face arrest and prosecution.
He noted that the state government, in collaboration with the Federal Government’s Presidential Task Force against economic sabotage and oil vandalism, would stop at nothing to ensure justice is served.
He revealed that some individuals involved in the fake beverages trade confessed to supplying over 1,000 cartons of fake products weekly, highlighting the severity of the issue.
Anere further said that the government would pursue cases to a logical conclusion, taking action to prevent further harm and ensure good governance.
