Nigeria Police Force Clear Air, Reveal Redesign Plans

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has declared its readiness to redesign and rebuilt the Falomo Police Barracks on Lagos State through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiated under former IGP Usman Baba Alkali

The Force declared that the new arrangement would be spearheaded with the support of the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun. Galaxy TV reports that the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi while addressing Journalists in Abuja on Monday said a nationwide assessment revealed that less than 25% of police personnel have adequate housing, with 90% of barracks in severe disrepair.

He said Contrary to reports, no officers were forcefully evicted from Falomo Barracks noting that Occupants were given notice, provided relocation assistance, and compensated with N2,000,000 each for alternative housing, with monthly rent allowances.

He said the reconstruction of these facilities, including Falomo Barracks, is urgent to ensure officer safety and welfare promising that, those affected would be allotted units in the new facility on completion.

He said the Nigeria Police Force through its Property Development and Construction Company is leveraging on Public Private Partnership models, which have been successfully used globally, including in the UK, US, Canada, and South Africa, to provide modern housing for police officers. Adejobi urged the public to dismiss false narratives and support the reforms aimed at improving police welfare and service delivery in line with global standards.
