Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has voiced strong concerns over the recent collapse of Nigeria’s national power grid, which left many parts of the country in darkness. The grid failure occurred on Monday evening, with power generation dropping significantly. In a statement, Obi described the incident as a “national shame” and a clear indication of leadership failures and inadequate policy implementation.
He emphasized that these recurring power failures hinder Nigeria’s economic growth, particularly impacting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that rely on stable electricity for productivity. Obi criticized the stark disparity in power generation between Nigeria and other African nations, noting that Nigeria’s current power issues reflect deeper governance problems. He called for urgent reforms in the energy sector to improve the situation and prioritize the economic well-being of Nigerians.
