Bayelsa Government Visits Flood Ravaged Community

The Bayelsa state government has taken measures in responding to the coastal community of Biseni in Yenagoa local government area of the state, after an overflow of the river Bank and heavy downpour led to flooding of the community. This was displayed during the visit of the state commissioner for environment Honourable Ebi Ololo, who led stakeholders on an on-the-spot assessment of the flooded community.

The inspection of the flooded Biseni community which led to the sacking of schools, places of worship and homes as a result of the rise in water level, have led many community residents to relocate to higher ground. The Bayelsa state commissioner for environment who led the inspection team on behalf of the state governor Douye Diri, said the flooded communities is as a result of the opening of Lado dam which the state government is working to provide palliatives.

The chairmen of Yenagoa and sanitation task force spoke on the challenges faced by displaced persons, as a displaced farmer lament over destruction of crops and premature harvest. The Bayelsa state government must ensure that proactive measures are put in place as the water level continue to rise, in safeguarding the lives and property of the people.
