No fewer than four persons have lost their lives after suspected cultists invaded the Ifite Awka area of the school gate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Anambra State in an early morning attack on Thursday.
According to eyewitnesses, gun-wielding hoodlums invaded the axis around 9:30am and opened fire on some persons suspected to be members of a rival cult group, thereby causing panic in the area. The suspected cultists were said to be looking for members of the rival cult group who were said to be hanging around the vicinity of the University School Gate before the incident occurred.
When contacted, the Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, said a team of policemen has taken over the scene of the shooting as preliminary information showed that the armed men started shooting sporadically, which led to the death of four persons in the area. Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command also said it has started investigation into some intercepted videos and voice notes on social media space threatening violence in the state.
