Lawmaker, Alex Ikwechegh Pleads Not Guilty to Assault Charges, Granted N500k Bail

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, was on Wednesday, arraigned before an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Kuje for allegedly a§§aulting a cab driver at his Abuja residence.

The lawmaker, who is representing Aba North and South federal constituency of Abia State, was charged with ab+se of office, a§§ault, and threat to life.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In his ruling, Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’id held that he was minded to accede to the defendant’s application for bail.

Consequently, he granted the lawmaker bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in the like sum.

The court stressed that the sureties must not only reside within its jurisdiction but also provide their utility bills as proof of residence.

It subsequently adjourned the matter to November 8 for trial

  1. Can you imagine? If it were an ordinary poor Nigerian, now, the bail would have gone up to #100 million with 2 surety that are civil servants up to grade level 16, with landed properly in heaven?? With this albino senator or horrible member, they are asking for #500,000 only. Tomorrow he can now kill and drop the same paltry #500,000. This country needs a massive turn around!
