The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has called on Governor Allex Oti to provide clarity on recent claims regarding the payment of N90 billion to contractors in the state.
The party, led by its State Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, expressed serious concerns about the nature of these payments, which Governor Oti reportedly stated were used to settle debts incurred by the previous PDP-led administration.
In an open letter to Governor Oti, Elder Amah clarified that the PDP is not aware of any such debt, emphasizing that there is no verifiable documentation or clear process to substantiate the claim. The PDP has asked the Governor to provide proof of the debts and to disclose the individuals or companies that benefitted from the said payments.
The PDP’s statement raised alarms over the transparency and legitimacy of the transactions, questioning the basis for disbursing such a substantial sum of money—especially in the absence of public records or official communication regarding the debts in question. Amah further called on the Governor to disclose how the N90 billion was paid, and to ensure public confidence in the financial dealings of his administration.
“Without transparency, public trust is jeopardized, and the citizens of Abia deserve better than speculative claims that lack substance,” Amah said in the letter. “We urge Governor Oti to demonstrate the integrity of these transactions and address the concerns of Abians with clarity.”
The letter also referenced concerns about inconsistencies in previous statements about government spending and project funding, with the PDP requesting that the Governor take immediate action to clarify the situation.
The call for transparency comes at a time when the state’s political climate is tense, with heightened scrutiny of the current administration’s financial management. Governor Oti has yet to respond to the PDP’s demands for further clarification.
