At Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem Launch, Mbah hails fallen heroes, doles out support

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has paid glowing tributes to the members of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their roles in sustaining peace, security and unity of the country.

The governor, who eulogised the fallen heroes for voluntarily laying down their lives in the service of their fatherland, announced the sum of N7.5million support for the Nigerian Legion.

Mbah said this on Tuesday at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, during the official launch of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblems, stressing that his administration would continue to support the families of the fallen heroes and other ex-servicemen who had become incapacitated.

The governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Barr Ifeanyi Ossai, further acknowledged the commitment of security agencies to ensuring that people in the state are able to go about their normal daily routines without security threat of any form.

He said the administration would continue to forge robust partnership with the Nigerian Legion in ensuring mutual and constructive engagement that will better the welfare of those in need.

Mbah added that the administration was already investing in the construction of mass housing and other social service programmes such as the construction of Smart Green Schools and hospitals that will meet the education and health needs of the people, including serving and ex-servicemen.

While using the opportunity to appeal to well-meaning Nigerians to always reach out to the families of the fallen heroes in the country, the governor assured that unwavering support of the administration.

Speaking earlier, the State Chairman and Commandant of the Nigerian Legion, Enugu Council, Dr. Emeka Igwesi, said the Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an annual event set aside in memory of those persons who had served Nigeria when the country needed their services the most, and urged eminent Nigerians, corporate organizations as well as the state government to partner with the Legion to assist the families of fallen and living heroes, some of whom are now bedridden and incapacitated.

He urged the government to consider the services of the young men and women who had previously served in the army, navy and air force through partnership with the Legion in the area of security.

The commandant further extolled the governor, whom he described as the statutory patron of the legion, for his avowed determination and support to make Enugu a modern and smart state.

Dr. Igwesi added that under the leadership of Governor Mbah, Enugu State was fast transforming into an industrial and secure state.
