Manchester United abandoned plans to wear pride-themed warm-up jackets during Sunday’s Rainbow Laces campaign match against Everton after defender Noussair Mazraoui declined to participate, citing religious beliefs.
Rainbow Devils, United’s LGBTQ+ supporters club, expressed disappointment, stating the decision came after “one of the squad refused” to wear the jackets. In solidarity with Mazraoui, the team opted not to wear them, though some players reportedly disagreed with the decision.
Mazraoui, who joined United from Bayern Munich this summer, had previously faced criticism in Germany for supporting a Moroccan teammate’s refusal to engage in a similar campaign. United had worn pride-themed gear in the previous two seasons.
