About 1000 women, including infants, girls, and widows, on Saturday received free medical care at Full Life Specialist Hospital, Enugu, during the Well Women 2024 Free Medical Outreach organized by the hospital’s management in partnership with Powell Homes and Shelters Limited.
The event, which started around 7 a.m., had all the beneficiaries given various degrees of medical attention at the hospital, located at No. 3C Ụmụawulu Street, Independence Layout.
The medical care provided during the exercise includes consultation on all medical and surgical cases for women, consultation for all obstetrics and gynecology cases for women, consultation for Ear, Nose, and Throat cases for women, pediatric consultation for girl children, dental consultation for women, dermatology consultation for women, laboratory tests, free drugs, X-rays, breast examination, health talks and interactive sessions, ultrasound scans, amongst others.
Addressing the newsmen, the Managing Director of Full Life Specialist Hospital, Dr. Goodness Nwabueze, disclosed that the exercise is a yearly one, where people, especially indigent women, are helped to know their health status, manage issues affecting their health, amongst others.
She stated that this year’s outreach had over 980 women who came from all walks of life to benefit from this yearly exercise.
She stressed that it is also part of the hospital’s ways of giving back to society in line with the principles that guide the corporate social responsibility of business organizations in Nigeria.
Dr. Nwabueze also spoke on the importance of living a healthy life, especially for women, who she said are creators of humans.
She commended the management of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, led by Architect Chibuikem Onyekachi, for always giving their yearly free medical exercise the needed support, adding that over 95% of the entire logistics used for the program were provided by the company.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, Architect Chibuikem Onyekachi, said they chose to partner with the hospital owing to their impeccable track record of decency and commitment to saving lives.
He stated that the turnout for this year’s exercise was marvellous, adding that he is happy that many lives were saved while many lost hopes were renewed.
Also speaking, the Program Officer of the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV), Barr. Nnenna Anozie, commended the management of Full Life Specialist Hospital and Powell Homes and Shelters Limited for their commitment to improving the welfare of the people, especially women.
She stated that Saturday’s exercise, which she was part of, has immensely saved a lot of souls and provided hope to many families. According to her, the outreach demonstrated the importance of prioritizing women’s health and ensuring they have access to free and quality medical care, particularly in challenging economic times.
Barr. Anozie further called on other organizations and well-meaning individuals to emulate this noble initiative by supporting similar programs that address the healthcare needs of women and children, especially the underprivileged. She reiterated that investments in women’s health have a ripple effect on the overall well-being of society.
The legal luminary also used the opportunity to sensitize women on their rights, where she also provided clues on gender-based violence, highlighting the importance of its awareness among women.
She, however, called on stakeholders to join hands in the fight against gender-based violence for a better society.
The beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organizers, describing the outreach as a blessing during a time of need. Many shared how the exercise provided them with an opportunity to access medical care they had been postponing due to financial constraints. They noted that the quality of care they received, coupled with the interactive health sessions, empowered them with knowledge to better manage their health and that of their families.
Some mothers, who brought their daughters for pediatric consultations, shared how relieved they felt after their children received proper diagnoses and treatments. Others appreciated the organizers for including services like laboratory tests and free medications, which they described as a lifeline for those who cannot afford the high costs of healthcare. Many of them expressed hopes that such initiatives would be sustained to continue impacting lives positively.
