Gunmen Kill Two Policemen, Set Patrol Van Ablaze in Imo State Ambush

Two policemen were shot dead Thursday when unknown gunmen attacked a patrol van at Okigwe in Imo State.

The police team on routine patrol were reportedly ambushed and attacked at about 6:30 am on 19/12/2024.

The incident happened at Umuluole Junction along the Okigwe/Umuahia expressway.

The gunmen numbering over 25 were said to be about 25 in number and were said to have opened fire on the police team with GPMG and Assault Rifles.

Two policemen Inspector Simon Ogbonna and Isonh Osudi lost their lives in the ensuing gun duel while the patrol van was set ablaze by the hoodlums.

Three AK 47 Rifles were also snatched by the gunmen who made good their escape.

The Commissioner of Police Imo State CP Aboki Danjuma was reported to have responded by mobilizing all tactical Commanders and army personnel to scene of incidence.

The police have also moved into action to track down the suspects and recover the stolen weapons.
