Prince Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State and member of the Bilaro Oluodo ruling house, has emerged as the new Owa Obokun Ajimoko III, the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland. His appointment was officially confirmed on Friday, December 27, 2024, following a transparent and peaceful election conducted by the kingmakers at the Ilesa West Local Government Secretariat.
Haastrup, a prominent figure in Osun State, triumphed over nine other candidates in the closely contested election. The process was overseen by the Iwora mefa chiefs and other key traditional leaders, with the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Felicia Olabimtan, announcing the results. Haastrup received the highest number of votes, solidifying his position as the new monarch.
The peaceful election has been widely celebrated across Ijesaland and beyond, with well-wishers sending congratulations to the new ruler. Traditional leaders, including the Ogboni of Ibokun, Oba Festus Awogboro, and the Elegboro of Ijesaland, Oba Olufemi Agunsoye, commended the peaceful nature of the election and congratulated Haastrup on his ascension.
