The traditional ruler of Ihekwenu autonomous community, Aku, in Igbo Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, His Royal Highness, Igwe Christopher Okwor, has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of his people, especially the indigent, as he marked a double celebration on Sunday.

The event, held at his palace, featured the celebration of God’s faithfulness to his family, the birthday of his wife, Lolo Nnemuru Oha Martina Okwor, and an annual charity outreach benefiting the less privileged in the community.

Speaking at the occasion, Igwe Okwor announced the disbursement of N10,000 each to 100 indigents, a gesture he described as his way of honoring God.

“Last year, we reached out to 85 indigents, but this year, God has been so good to us that we extended it to 100. This is to please my God, who has been faithful to me and my family. All credit belongs to Him,” the traditional ruler said.

On his relationship with his community, Igwe Okwor emphasized his love for his people and their reciprocal support, noting that not everyone can be a friend to all.

“When Jesus Christ came to the earth, not everyone liked Him. So, nobody can be a friend to everybody. But my people are happy with me, and what you are seeing today is something I do every year. I love my people, and they love me,” he stated.

“Despite past challenges, including unfounded accusations regarding land matters, Igwe Okwor has remained steadfast in his commitment to uplifting the poor. Today’s event is a testament to his love for the community,” Ugwu said.

Prof. Cyprian Onyeji, former Vice Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, also praised the traditional ruler’s dedication to his people, which shows the significance of his philanthropic efforts in the face of economic challenges.

“Igwe Okwor’s actions are remarkable. He understands that criticism is inevitable, but it shows he is doing well. His commitment to remembering the poor is inspiring,” Prof. Onyeji noted.

The celebrant, Lolo Martina Okwor, expressed gratitude for the celebration and prayed for God’s grace upon her well-wishers.

“I am excited about the wonderful things God has done for my family. I wish everyone God’s grace and pray their prayers are answered,” she said.

The celebration featured music, dancing, and a shared meal with the 100 beneficiaries, who later received their cash gifts.
