The remains of Late Barrister Bennett Kamen, former Chairman of Ekwusigo Local Government Area in Anambra State, were laid to rest in his country home at Ihembosi, Ekwusigo LGA, Thursday, January 9, 2025. The burial ceremony was attended by many dignitaries, including former Governor of Anambra State and Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, and Hon. Jonbosco Akaegbobi, minority leader and member representing Nnewi South 11 at the Anambra State House of Assembly.
Mr. Obi, in his condolence message, described Late Barrister Kamen who was Ekwusigo Local Government Chairman during his tenure as governor, as a selfless and incorrigible individual who played critical roles during his tenure as governor. He noted that Kamen’s understanding and representation of public service aligned with his own ideals.
Rev. Fr. Kizito Igwe, in his homily, reminded the mourners of the inevitability of death and the importance of living a life of love and service to others. He emphasized that loving one’s neighbors and family is an essential ingredient upon which the foundation of humanity lies.
Hon. Kamen Chuks, first son of the deceased, paid tribute to his father, describing him as someone who sacrificed his personal comfort for the good of others. Barrister Edozie Kamen, the last child of the deceased, remembered his father for his incorrigible nature and large heart.
Late Barrister Kamen’s body was received during a brief stopover at the Ekwusigo Local Council Secretariat by the incumbent chairman, Hon. Chimezie Obi and all the councillors and staff of the council.
Speaking while receiving the remains of Bar. Bennett Ikemefuna Nkememena (Kamen), the executive chairman, Hon Chimezie Obi eulogised the deceased as a man of strong convictions and called on the family to take solace in the belief that Papa has gone to observe a well deserved rest with his Maker.
Other priests present at the burial ceremony included Father Donald Chidolue, Father Athenatius Ironkwe, Father Sebastian, Father Paul Onwughalu, and Father Johnpaul Ifechigha.
Dignitaries at the well attended event included Sir and Lady Francis Chukwudebelu, Chief Ignatius Nwanwulu, Chief Charles Ejieke (former PG, Abriba),Hon Emeka Idu,Hon Emeka Anagwu Chief Emeka Ibekwe, Mr Darlington Agwu,Hon Peter Uzokwe (member representing Ekwusigo, Nnewi North and South and several others.Members of the Ubahnation Media team whose leader is the chief mourner were also on ground to provide morale support.
