A social group, operating under the auspices of Ebonyi Prestigious Club (EPC), on Saturday, held its maiden induction and inaugurated its new leaders, with a poise to assist in developing the state and humanity.
This was as it allayed the fear surrounding its emergence that it was a political association, saying it was merely a social outfit with a determination to contribute its quota in the development of mankind and Ebonyi State.
Its Caretaker President and Board of Trustee (BoT) Chairman, Sir Chika Nwoba, stated this during his opening remarks at the induction/inauguration ceremony, which held at the Cirenes Hotels, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
According to Sir Nwoba, the EPC only existed for the expansion and susteinanlity of humanity (which embodies its creed and motto), adding it was neither a political nor a religious organization.
Nwoba, who spoke on the authority of Chairman of the occasion, Chief Alex Ozone, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of O3 Media, said, “I welcome everybody into this hall today for this honorable gathering. And I thank God first and foremost for keeping us alive till today and also thank God for granting us journey mercy from our different destinations to this hall. I also thank God for making it possible for us to come together to forge a common social front to promote good living and society. I am also happy for having our different guests here today; we are many. While we wouldn’t have the time to introduce everybody, I want to thank the Chairman for making it to the occasion. It’s worthy of note that the chairman is one of us.
“So, the EPC as we all know is not a political organization. It’s a social club like other clubs you can think of. However, there are many things that distinguish us from other clubs. The EPC is a club of young men who are doing quite well in their different fields of endeavour-we are a club of educated people, traders, entertainers, lawyers and other professionals including media practitioners and everything you can think of.
“We are more than this number here today. We have some of us living in England, in the UK, in USA, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, and so on. Even though some of us couldn’t make it back home, they are with us in spirit. So, we have enough to entertain you.
“Let’s put the records straight. The EPC is not a political pressure group. We don’t belong to any political party; we are not a religious organization. And so, we are purely social. Social in the sense that, we think about the good of the society, the good of mankind and, everything that would help the society and mankind to grow. So, nobody should see us from the prism of politics or coming to cause any political commotion. There’s nothing like that.”
Delivering a brief lecture, titled: “Unity in purpose”, the new President, Barr. Moses Ugboh, who was inaugurated alongside 10 other executive members, urged members to align their actions with the goals of the Club to ensure its aims and objectives were not relegated.
He said, “When purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable. You may be a part of an organization without being part of the purpose of that organization. Therefore, the primary thing at this level of EPC is for us to understand the purpose therein.
“Purpose, no matter how clear or elaborate cannot be achieved by one man or person in an organization. If purpose is all about you, yourself and just yourself then you are far from what it means. The world today, has become a community and you cannot do anything anywhere today, alone. This is why the EPC has come together so as to achieve that very purpose.
“When you check history and records of eminent and great achievers of all time, you would see they were driven by purpose. Purpose does not work in isolation. There must be unity for a purpose to be achieved, hence today’s topic, “Unity of Purpose”. If we are going at different directions, we cannot arrive at a particular destination.”
Other members of the inaugurated executive members included Comrade Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu, Vice President; Dr. Nweli Hillary, Secretary; Hon. Monday Joseph, Organizing Secretary; Prince Otubor Oforbuike, Legal Adviser; and Edward Nnachi, Publicity Secretary; among others.
