Anambra South APC Zonal Executive Endorses Dozie Ikedife Jr for Senatorial By-Election

In a major boost to the aspirations of Dozie Ikedife Jr to complete the tenure of the late Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, the Zonal Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra South Senatorial District have unanimously endorsed Dozie Ikedife Jnr to vie for the Anambra South Senatorial seat in the 2025 by-election.

This endorsement took place during the extraordinary meeting of the Anambra South APC Executive Committee, which took place at the country home of Chief Dozie Ikedife Jr (Ikenga Nnewi). The Zonal chairman of the party in Anambra South senatorial district, Chief Izuchukwu Okeke led members of the Zonal Executive Committee and other state party officers from the zone to this crucial meeting.

Leading proceedings at the meeting, the APC Zonal Chairman stated that the essence of the gathering is to leave no one in doubt about the fact that the APC family in Anambra South is unanimously and solidly behind Chief Dozie Ikedife’s quest to vie for the Anambra South Senatorial seat as the party’s candidate in the upcoming by-election.

According to Chief Izu Okeke, the circumstances around the election makes it imperative for the party especially those officials of the party from the zone to take a clear stand and begin early to work towards a united purpose. He said that it was not difficult for party officers and other stakeholders to zero the selection down to Ikenga Nnewi for many reasons.

He noted that due to the fact that the Anambra South Senatorial seat was occupied by the departed Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah (Ebubechukwuzo) who hailed from Nnewi, it was only fitting that his replacement at the Senate who will complete his remaining tenure should also come from Nnewi in the spirit of natural justice.

He added that apart from that, the party also thought it wise to concede the senatorial ticket to someone within his political family who can properly carry on with the aspirations of the late Senator for the remainder of his supposed tenure at the Senate.

However, the Zonal Chairman noted that the unanimous choice of Chief Dozie Ikedife Jr is not just because of his closeness to Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah but because Ikenga Nnewi on his own is ordinarily the perfect individual to take up that burden of leadership left behind by Odenjiji. Chief Dozie Ikedife Jr he said, is a deep-rooted grassroot politician who will easily command grassroot following and rally round voters to his cause.

Other speakers also listed various attributes that makes the choice of Dozie Ikedife Jr as a fait accompli including the fact that he has been a faithful party man and as the incumbent South East APC Zonal Organising Secretary, he understands the ideology and needs of the party at different levels. He will therefore easily carry his base along once victory is secured.

Some speakers also noted that Ikenga Nnewi, due to his tenacity and drive is perhaps the only one who can vigorously speak for Anambra South and defend their interests at the national assembly while ensuring that everything due for Anambra South senatorial district gets back home to the people in a very inclusive manner. They therefore declared that as far as the APC ticket is concerned, Chief Dozie Ikedife Jr is who they know and who they will back.

In the end, every member of the Zonal Executives Committee present at the meeting declared their total support for the candidacy of Chief Dozie Ikedife Jr and pledged to make his race to the Senate as seemless as possible. The Nnewi South APC Chairman, Mazi Chidi Orjika who spoke on behalf of other Chairmen present appealed to any other person(s) in the party who may be nursing an ambition to represent Anambra South to have a rethink at this time so that the APC family can quickly move ahead in the campaign instead of being caught up with internal politics to select a candidate. He then moved a motion for Dozie Ikedife Jr to be adopted as the sole and consensus candidate of the party, which was unanimously adopted.

The Zonal Executive Committee also unanimously passed a resolution appealing to all the 2025 governorship aspirants of the party to join hands to support Dozie Ikedife Jr to win the senatorial by election as this would be big statement of intent to anyone who is watching the political evolution in Anambra State ahead of the 2025 governorship election.

The man of the moment, Chief Dozie Ikedife Jr in his acceptance remarks, thanked the party for the confidence reposted in him and promised not to let the party and the people of Anambra South down. He appealed to the Local Government Chairmen in the zone to work in synergy with the Zonal officers and stakeholders in their various LGAs to ensure total victory for the party in the coming by-election.
