The House of Representatives’ Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight has invited the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), for a high-level interactive session scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
This development follows the committee’s inaugural meeting held today at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, one day after it was formally inaugurated by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., GCON.
The committee was constituted following the National Assembly’s adoption of the Presidential Proclamation declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State. The meeting offered members an opportunity to review preliminary reports and assess developments in the state since the appointment of the Sole Administrator.
According to the Chairman of the Committee and House Leader, Hon. (Prof.) Julius Ihonvbere, OON, the invitation is aimed at shedding light on the current situation in Rivers State and ensuring the House remains accurately informed as it carries out its legislative oversight functions.
“This engagement is necessary to ascertain the true state of affairs in Rivers State and ensure that the House remains properly guided in the discharge of its oversight responsibilities in the public interest,” Ihonvbere stated.
The interactive session is expected to hold at 4:00 PM on Thursday in Room 414 of the House of Representatives’ New Building at the National Assembly Complex. A formal invitation has already been issued and acknowledged.
The Committee emphasized its commitment to transparency and due constitutional process as it continues its work in line with Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., the Spokesman of the House, signed off on the statement, reiterating the lower chamber’s pledge to uphold diligence and public accountability throughout the process.
