Aisha Yesufu, a social critic and human rights activist, proposed that Nigeria should adopt a “football sense” approach during elections, emphasizing the importance of merit over religious or tribal affiliations.
She made this statement in light of the Super Eagles’ triumph over South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Yesufu speculated that if a goalkeeper from the 1980s had been chosen instead of Stanley Nwabali, the current Eagles goalkeeper, the outcome might have been different.
“Imagine instead of fielding Stanley Nwabali we decided to field a goalkeeper from the 80s because it is his turn.
“Make we dey use football sense during election.“Religious and tribal sentiments don’t give you positive results,” she wrote.
