Sharon Chidamba, a 40-year-old woman from Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe, is facing murder charges for allegedly killing her married lover, Edward Chakanetsa, on Christmas Day in 2023. The incident took place at Chidamba’s residence in Chitungwiza, following a dispute that escalated after a beer-drinking session.
According to the prosecution, Chidamba attacked Chakanetsa with an unidentified object during the altercation, resulting in a fractured skull that ultimately led to his death. Chidamba was subsequently arrested on January 6, following suspicions raised by Chakanetsa’s relatives.
Initially, Chidamba provided conflicting statements to the deceased’s family regarding the circumstances of Chakanetsa’s death. One account suggested that Chakanetsa had ingested rat poison, and Chidamba claimed she rushed him to a local hospital where he later died. However, suspicions arose, leading the family to report the case to the police.
Subsequent investigations and a post-mortem examination revealed that Chakanetsa’s cause of death was blunt force trauma, contradicting Chidamba’s earlier claims of poison ingestion. As a result, Chidamba was formally charged with murder.
Chidamba was granted $100 bail and appeared at the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court to face trial. Further court appearances are scheduled as the police continue their investigations into the case. The legal proceedings will provide more insight into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
