Youths and Stakeholders of Eka-Awoke Community in Ebonyi state have warned the dissolved leaders of Eka- Awoke Development Union which was led by Dr. Collins Okechukwu lrem not to further indulge themselves in any act capable of re-engineering crisis in the community.
Coming under the aegis of Concerned lndegenes of Eka-Awoke, the group noted that the activities of the dissolved community leadership was threatening the peace and security of the area especially in the management of mineral resources in the community.
ln a statement made available to newsmen yesterday in Abakaliki and signed by the representatives of the group which includes, a former Chairman of lkwo Local Government Area, Elder Hon. John Nnabo, Youth leader , Mr. Ndubisi Ogwu , Hon. Uche Ogodo, Mr Ndubuisi Nwuke, Youth Representative, Chief lgwe Alo, community leader, Hon. Clifford lgboji, Councillor representing Eka-Awoke ward and Chief Anthony lgwe, a community leader, the group further emphasised that the security of the lives and properties of the people were their utmost concern.
They stated that they will do everything possible within the ambit of the law to forestall the activities of any person or group of persons that is inimical to the peace and security of the people of the area.
The group said ” that we are favourably disposed to any step, action, decision and or pronouncement by the Government or it’s agencies that will guarantee the protection of lives and properties of the people”
The group blamed the former leadership of the community for alleged mismanagement and poor leadership which according to them was already brewing crisis capable of threatening the peace and security of the community.
They said that ” the action of the former leadership of Eka-Awoke Development Union especially as it relates to the management of the Natural Resources of the community was almost tilting towards throwing the entire community into heavy crisis capable of endangering lives and properties of our people and needed urgent intervention”
… COMMENDS THE PROACTIVE ACTIONS OF THE COUNCIL CHAIRMAN
The group in the statement commended the prompt intervention of the Chairman of lkwo Local Government Area, Barr. Sunday Nwankwo which according to them was an action taken in the right direction.
“That we deeply commend the proactive steps taken the Chairman of lkwo Local Government Area Barr. Sunday Nwankwo to stem the tide. He has in deed demonstrated his readiness to protect the lives and properties of the people in line with his constitutional mandate as the chief Security Officer of lkwo Local Government Area”
… UNIVERSITY DON COMMENDS COUNCIL CHAIRMAN
Meanwhile, a member of the new caretaker Committee of Eka-Awoke Development Union, Professor Paulinus Nnabo has thanked the Council Chairman for appointing him into the new caretaker Committee of the community leadership and applauded him for the steps taking so far in the issue of the community.
ln a letter dated April 6, 2024 and addressed to the Chairman of lkwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State , Prof Nnabo, however, regretted his inability to make himself available due to official assignments which has taken him out of state for a little long time.
” l want to sincerely thank you for this appointment for me to continue to serve my community but now in another capacity. Presently, l am in an official assignment outside the state which will keep me busy and outside the state for quite sometime. l also have other professional and federal engagements, based on these, l am not available to make my meaningful contributions…” he said.
lt could be recalled that the leadership of Eka-Awoke Community led by Dr. Collins Okechukwu lrem was recently dissolved by the chairman of lkwo Local Government Area for acts capable of breaching the peace and security of the community and subsequently appointed and inaugurated a caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of Union.
Meanwhile, the action of the council chairman has continued to receive thunderous commendations from scholars and observers who pointed out that prevention would always be the best way to peace and order in any given society.
A security expert who spoke to our correspondent on grounds of anonymity said that preventive actions in security and peace management is not only cost effective but remains the most viable mechanism to stem the tide of breakdown of peace. He, therefore, sees the action of the council chairman as one of such preventive measures.
