Awka- As the dust of Financial Rot and Extortion of Students in College of Nursing Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, is yet to die down and be fully investigated, there have been further revelation of extortion and fraudulent crimes being perpetrated in Nnamdi Azikiwe, Post Graduate College against the students, as One Mrs Njideka Nwangwu engages in High level of financial Extortion with the Provost of Post Graduate College, Prof. Igbokwe
A source who chose to remain anonymous revealed to our correspondent that this extortion being perpetrated against the students by Mrs Njideka Nwangwu, who is SSANU Chairperson in the Institution’s College has the consent of the Provost of the PG College. Our Source revealed that the sum of Eight Thousand Four hundred naira (N8,400.00) was being collected from over 400 students. The students were being asked to pay the sum that their results went to School Board for approval. Those who refused to pay were being threatened that they will not see their results.
Our correspondent gathered that many of these PG have spent many years running PG programmes as they do not graduate at a stipulated time. A programme of 2 years will take 3 to 6 years to graduate.
The worrisome aspect of it is that the money is not being paid into the College or University Account. The PG students were being forced to pay the money into Mrs Njideka Nwangwu’s account. Our investigation revealed that Mrs Njideka Nwangwu is the current Secretary of PG College, who was suddenly appointed through the outgoing Vice-Chancellor’s fiat, against many Deputy Registrars who are her seniors in the institution.
Many of the students who chose to remain anonymous who refused to pay, queried what the money is being used for. That if the money being demanded from them are genuine, why not provide the PG College account number or school Accounts. Why will they be asked to pay money into a staff account number in the institution. The Students are calling on the School Management to investigate the matter.
A source close to The School’s PRO unit revealed that the Institution has zero tolerance for corruption. The school will investigate the matter and those involved if found guilty will face the full wrath of the law. There will be no sacred cow
