The Emergency General Assembly of Eziowelle Improvement Union, EIU has reiterated its resolution not to be part of the June 29th Town Union election unless the process follows constitutional provisions. In that regards the key stakeholders have once again written the the Governor of Anambra State His Excellency Prof Chukwuma Soludo highlighting their plight and complaints, while appealing for a solution that has human face.
The letter dated 25th June, 2024 and signed by major stakeholders reads in part;
The situation has worsened and can get irredeemable should the election be allowed to hold as scheduled by the Palace Secretary on June 29,2024. Such election would only serve the interest of those who exploit communal suffering for their agenda rather than providing a genuine solution to the conflict.
“We have severally advised Mr. Commissioner not to allow his friendship with Barr. Titus Akpudo to deter him from addressing the root cause of the conflict in Eziowelle Improvement Union which is the Constitution. We also informed him that the ultimate responsibility lies in eradicating the underlying factors to prevent further conflict. We are only afraid of the precedent it might set. Eziowelle community is in a very precarious situation as we write, and we do not want to resort to self-help as a people.
“From Mr. Commissioner’s demeanor, this unconstitutional election has been manipulated by himself and Barr. Titus Akpudo to achieve a desired outcome. We want an election that will be conducted in strict compliance with the provisions of Eziowelle Improvement Union constitution (1992), and not Mr. Commissioner’s self imposed constitution of 2020.
“Mr. Commissioner and Barr Titus Akpudo are using mere conspiracy theory to hoodwink the gullible public that they are making peace in Eziowelle community. How could Mr. Commissioner overrule longstanding precedent, assume jurisdiction he does not have, to grant reliefs the parties did not ask for in exercise of powers that he lacks? Anyone who does that is working for against justice.
“We are sincerely appealing to the State Government to see the urgency of this matter, but at the same time, it should know that it’s refusal to put the manipulated election on hold can lead to self-help.
PRAYERS;
- That the State Government should uphold the Eziowelle Improvement Union constitution (1992) as the extant constitution of the union.
- That the State Government should set up a small Committee of eggheads who have distinguished themselves as true patriots to take a look at this matter on its merit before the conduct of any election in the union.
- Barr. Akpudo and Mr. Commissioner should be held responsible for any breach of public peace in Eziowelle community.
Long live Anambra State.
God bless Anambra State.
