The Integrity Youth Alliance has dismissed reports of tension in the Nigeria Police Force over speculations about President Bola Tinubu’s alleged endorsement of a Commissioner of Police to succeed the current Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
According to the group, Section 7(2) of the Police Act 2020 clearly states the qualifications for appointment as IGP, and IGP Egbetokun has three years left in office. They urged the public to disregard sponsored publications and called on the IGP to continue his vision for a professional police force.
The Alliance’s Board Chairman, Comrade Adewole Kehinde, emphasized that the appointment of an IGP is political, but the Police Act 2020 guides the process. He expressed confidence in IGP Egbetokun’s leadership and encouraged him to stay focused on his vision for a competent, service-driven, and rule-of-law-compliant police force.
