DRC sets up CLOs across 326 wards in Anambra to address members’ needs

The Disability Rights Commission (DRC), Anambra State says it will intensity efforts to bring Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s Solution Vision to persons with disabilities in 326 political wards in the state.

This will include appointment of Commission Liaison Officers (CLO) across 21 Local Government Areas of the state, 179 communities in the state and 326 wards in the state.

Briefing newsmen in Awka on the Quarterly Meeting of the Commission held on Tuesday July 23, 2024, the Chairman of the Commission, Barr Chuka Ezewuzie said this will be achieved through collaboration and regular communication with the TC chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, president generals and town union executives.

According to him, there is concrete plans to pull persons with disabilities out of poverty using establishment of Access Market Pavilion (AMP); Cooperative society for persons with disabilities; credit facilities for entrepreneurs with disabilities and trade fair for merchants and skilled persons with disabilities.

Barr Ezewuzie maintained that the commission resolved to set up Persons Living With Disabilities Find as stipulated by section 16 of the Anambra State Disability Rights Law 2018, in which Bishop Moses Ezedebego, a member of the Commission, was appointed the chairman of the fundraising committee to actualise this plan.

DRC boss appreciated one of the Commission’s members, Dr Lady Pat Okeke and wife of Chief G.U Okeke for building and donating two classrooms and hostel blocks to Special School for the Deaf, Odoakpu, Onitsha.

“The Commission expressed immense gratitude to Rule of Law and Anti-corruption program (RoLAC) for sponsoring accessibility audit research of Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) with numerous dividends.

“The Commission specially thanks Governor Soludo for the approval of memos to furnish and equip the commission with state-of-the-art equipment after creating an independent budget line for the commission.”

Barr Ezewuzie however expressed optimism that the governor will approve finances to MDAs to enhance equitable access to public buildings and make provisions for everybody according to their disability needs.###
