As the build up to the Local Government election in Enugu State heightens, there are indications that a top military officer from the state may field his younger brother for the Chairmanship position in Igboeze North Local Government Area.
Sources close to the military officer who hinted our reporter, noted that secret talks are ongoing between the PDP top hierarchy and the family to curry the support of the officer for the party in future elections in the area.
The source further told our reporter that part of the condition being given by the officer is the nomination of his younger brother as the PDP Chairmanship candidate for Igboeze North Local Government Area in the forthcoming Local Government election in Enugu State.
” Already, the Governor is nearly considering his request just that there are indications that the choice of the military officer’s younger brother may be faced with stiff opposition because people don’t like him”. The Source said.
Meanwhile, analysts believe that with Local Government autonomy in place, Governors are careful on their choice for the Chairmanship position.
A Political Consultant, Prof. Ibeneme Okafor argued that it is most times counter productive in terms of political loyalty to crown someone with robust background especially in Africa society.
Prof. Okafor stressed that Nigerian system had always favoured persons with no known background which according him, ” is what politicians in this country wants”.
Our sources further gathered that the alliance meeting between the PDP and the top military officer was arranged by a by the party to beef up critical support where agreement is being reached to concede the Chairmanship of Igbo Eze North to the said officer as condition precedent for his support to the party in subsequent elections in the state.
” As I talk to you now, their plans are almost concluded and you know that a person of that rank from Igboeze North should be recognized and I believe that is why the Governor wants his political support by all means”. The Source added.
