The Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned the ban on three chieftains of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from attending the party’s National Executive Committee meetings.

The three chieftains, former PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus, former Rivers State Governor Celestine Omehia, and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Austin Opara, had been barred from attending the meetings by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court.

However, in a unanimous decision on Friday, the appellate court nullified the orders, ruling that the trial court had overstepped its bounds by interfering in the internal affairs of the party.

The court held that the decision on who attends the party’s meetings is an internal matter for the PDP and not for the court to decide.
