Governor Hyacinth Alia has directed security agencies in the state to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of at least 20 medical doctors kidnapped on Thursday evening. The medical students, from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, were ambushed and abducted by gunmen along the Otukpo-Enugu highway while en route to a convention in Enugu State.
Governor Alia strongly condemned the abduction, warning criminal elements operating in the state to find another base, as his administration is committed to stamping out all forms of criminality.
The Governor’s directive comes as concern grows over the safety of the kidnapped medical doctors. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for swift action to ensure their safe release.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, confirmed the directive in a statement, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in the state.
