The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State, Barrister Olaniyi Ijalaye, slumped and died on Monday, August 19, in Abuja after attending a meeting with other RECs at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters.
Akelicious gathered from reports that the incident occurred after Ijalaye returned to his hotel room after the meeting.
The REC was said to have been in good spirit during the meeting where the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, as well as filling vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies, were focused on.
Ijalaye assumed the REC position in Ogun State in March 2022 following the transfer of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State.
