The Enugu State Government has announced plans to take decisive action against properties used for kidnapping purposes, in line with the state’s amended Criminal Code Law. The law, signed in 2017, empowers the government to demolish or forfeit properties used for kidnapping.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the government explained that due diligence has been carried out to ensure that no innocent persons are affected. The government has compiled a list of properties used for kidnapping and will take swift action against them.
Property owners are warned to exercise due diligence in knowing their tenants to avoid forfeiting their properties. The government reiterates its commitment to ridding the state of crimes and criminalities, stating that there will be no hiding place for criminal elements.
Action will be taken soon, serving as a deterrent to others. The government urges citizens to cooperate and report any suspicious activities.
