The Anambra State Government has condemned the killing and injuring of indigenes of Enugwu Ukwu community on Monday, September 9, 2024, and called for calm as investigations into the incident continue.
According to reports, three people were killed and five others seriously injured at Isionye land, boundary between Enugwu Ukwu and Nawfia communities in Njikọka Local Government Area.
The government has dismissed claims that the incident was related to the impending local government elections, saying it was a “dastardly act” that should not be politicized.
The Police Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered an investigation into the murder, and preliminary findings suggest that the victims were lured to the land under false pretenses and attacked with guns and matchets.
The government has urged all parties and families of the deceased to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their hands, assuring them that the perpetrators will be brought to book.
Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu PhD, said the government will remain neutral and work with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served.
