The Oba of Benin, HRM Ewuare II, has responded to Senator Adams Oshimole’s recent claims regarding his stance on Governor Godwin Obaseki’s candidacy during the 2016 elections.
During a thank-you visit from the Edo State APC, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Oba emphasized that he never opposed Obaseki’s bid for governorship, countering Oshimole’s allegations.
Oshimole had apologized to the Oba for supporting Obaseki in 2016, suggesting that the monarch had warned him against handing over power to Governor Godwin Obaseki.
However, the Oba swiftly refuted this assertion, clarifying that he never issued such a warning.
This exchange highlights the complexities within Edo State politics, especially following the recent victory of APC candidate Senator Monday Okpebholo in the 2024 gubernatorial election.
