Troops of the 6 division Nigerian Army have averted what could have been a major fire outbreak after a petroleum laden tanker fell under the Rumuokuta bridge in Port Harcourt the state capital.
The incident which happened on Wednesday morning saw the transport unit of the 6 division mobilized to the roundabout where over a hundred shops were forced to close as residents scampered for safety.
The Army Acting Deputy Director 6 Division public relations Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah in a statement made available to newsmen, said the 760 transport battalion acting commander Major Al-Mustapha Adams swiftly mobilized and led the 6 Division fire crew to the scene to prevent any fire outbreak.
According to the Army, the exercise was conducted with sister security agencies and done strictly with security best practices, as the area was cordoned off while the exercise lasted.
Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army Major General Jamal Abdulsalam has commended troops for the swift response, while reassuring the people of Rivers state and environs of the resolve of the 6 Division under his watch to continue to carry out people-centric operations in line with the philosophy of the Chief of Army staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.
