Less than a month old baby have been killed, after being thrown into a canal, flowing with water in Wurukum area of Makurdi, Benue State capital.
The baby, according to some eyewitnesses was thrown away by her mother who was apparently distressed from the look on her face a night before the act was committed.
The baby was found dead after been brought out by a Good Samaritan who tried to resuscitate the baby but to no avail, as all effort to locate the mother’s whereabouts proved abortive as the lifeless body was taken to bury.
Some indicated that the poor baby may have been thrown away by her mother due to economic hardship as this seem to be the prevailing challenges most Nigerians are facing today. While they stated that the cost of buying food not to talk of baby food, pampers and other items may have necessitated this evil act.
