Enugu Police Inspector Dismissed and Arraigned for Murder of Local Musician

The Enugu State Police Command has concluded the orderly room trial of Police Inspector Ozonwanji Joseph, who was implicated in the murder of popular Ogene musician Chikezie Okezie Nwamba. The Inspector was found guilty and has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force, as well as arraigned in court for the crime.

The trial, approved by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 13, resulted in Inspector Joseph receiving the maximum penalty of dismissal, in accordance with the Police Act and Regulations 2020. Following his dismissal, he was arraigned today, October 28, 2024, at the Enugu East Magistrate Court on murder charges.

The Chief Magistrate ordered that the former police officer be remanded in the Enugu Correctional Custodial Centre, and the case file has been forwarded to the Attorney General of Enugu State for further judicial proceedings. The trial is set to resume on November 12, 2024.

Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, emphasizing the commitment of the Enugu State Police Command to uphold discipline within its ranks. He assured the public that all erring officers will be held accountable under his leadership.
