When the news of the demise of his father, Pa Lawrence Nwoye Nwabuisi who led a quiet and fulfilled life broke in September and the burial was announced for October, Ndi Anambra and Nigerians already knew it was going to be a detty October in Nsugbe in Anambra State, which happens to be the home-town of the Nwoyes.

For a man like Senator Dr Tony Nwoye who has continually sown good seeds of friendships and is loved for his benevolence and humanity, it was no surprise when top influential Politicians, Captains of Industries, Justices, Ambassadors, Lawmakers from National Assembly and State Assemblies, First Class Monarch, Religious Leaders started breezing into Nsugbe Community to Commiserate with Nwoyes during the burial Ceremony of their Late Patriarch.

The event which took place at his Offianta Village Nsugbe, Anambra East LGA of Anambra State on 25th of October, 2024 had the presence of who is who in Anambra State and the society.

The Church funeral service was presided over by Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev Dr Valerian Okeke and Bishop of Aguleri Diocese, Most Reverend Dennis Isizoh with over 70 priests in attendance. In his homily at the funeral service, which took place at the St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Nsugbe, Most Reverend Denis Isizoh the Catholic Bishop of the Aguleri Diocese urged the deceased’s family not to weep but give praise to the Lord, whom Pa Lawrence Nwoye Nwabuisi had gone to be with. The Catholic Bishop honoured Chief Nwoye-Nwabisi’s virtues and asked a poignant question of those gathered: “What will your neighbour say about you after you leave this world?” His words brought a reflective silence over the crowd. He concluded by urging everyone to live lives worthy of emulation, as Chief Lawrence Nwoye-Nwabisi had done.

The Senate President, Dr. Godswill Akpabio, GCON, expressed his sympathy to the Nwoye family: “The death of a loved one, no matter their age, evokes searing pain. At 89, your father was still an asset to his family and community. His loss is deeply felt.”

Senator Dr. Victor Umeh acknowledged the difficulty of losing a father, with whom one often shares an unbreakable bond. Similarly, Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawal, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, conveyed his condolences: “My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May God grant his soul eternal rest.”

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, GCON, remarked, “Chief Nwoye-Nwabisi’s unalloyed lifestyle will remain a legacy for this generation and those yet unborn. I urge all members of the family to bear this irreparable loss with strength.”

The funeral programme, which was held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Nsugbe attracted dignitaries and Political gladiators from the National Assembly, State Assembly, Governors and Captains of industry Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders and Community Leaders.

The dignitaries who graced the funeral event were; The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, HE Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Senator Victor Umeh (Ohamadike), Senator Kelvin Chukwu, Senator Onyeweuchi, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, Senator Osita Izunanso, Senator Seriake Dickson, Senator Jarigbe and many other Senators; Current House of Representatives Members which include Hon Afam Ogene, Hon Gwacham Maureen, Hon Peter Anekwe (Mmilinaliugwu), Hon Iduu Emeka, Hon Harris Okonkwo and many other House of Representatives members from outside Anambra State.
