WhatsApp Group Admins In Zimbabwe Must Obtain License Before Starting Group

WhatsApp group

Zimbabwe recently introduced a new requirement for WhatsApp group administrators to obtain a license from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (POTRAZ).

This measure is part of efforts to enforce the Data Protection Act, which governs the handling of personal data. Admins are required to pay an initial $50 for a license, and the cost could increase up to $2,500 depending on the group type. Additionally, group admins must appoint a Data Protection Officer trained by POTRAZ.

The government states the law aims to enhance data security and protect users’ privacy
