In a bid to alleviate the high cost of living for residents, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved free bus services across the state. The initiative, part of the governor’s five-point agenda, will be implemented through the Edo City Transport Service (ECTS) and will cover intra-city and inter-city routes across Edo State’s three senatorial districts.
Governor Okpebholo’s administration introduced the policy to address the rising transportation costs, ensuring that residents can commute without additional financial strain. The service is expected to cater to thousands of residents daily, providing them with affordable and stress-free transportation.
Speaking on the initiative, the governor emphasized his commitment to improving the quality of life for Edo people. “This is a step towards fulfilling my promise to prioritize the welfare of our people. By reducing transportation costs, we aim to ease the financial burden and improve access to opportunities across the state,” he said.
The free bus service has been widely applauded by residents, who expressed relief at the measure. A commuter, John Aigbe, said, “This is a welcome development. Transportation has been a major issue for many of us, and this will greatly help us save money for other essentials.”
The government also announced plans to ensure the buses are adequately maintained and accessible, with priority given to students, senior citizens, and workers.
