Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has congratulated the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for fulfilling its long-standing promise to revamp the Port Harcourt refinery.
In a statement, Obi lauded the commissioning of the refinery, which now boasts an installed production capacity of 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day, with approximately 200 trucks expected to load products daily.
“This milestone is commendable and offers a glimmer of hope for Nigerians eagerly anticipating the benefits of improved refining capacity, particularly on pump prices and the overall economy,” Obi said.
The former Anambra governor also expressed optimism about the ongoing revival of the Kaduna refinery, highlighting its potential to boost productivity, enhance transportation, and reduce economic burdens nationwide.
While acknowledging these achievements as steps in the right direction, Obi emphasized the need for transparency in the NNPC’s operations. He called for clarity and accountability in the management of the nation’s vital oil resources to ensure the benefits reach every Nigerian and contribute to long-term development.
“Nigerians deserve assurance that the gains from increased refining capacity will translate into tangible improvements in their daily lives,” Obi stated.
He concluded his remarks with a vision of hope, reiterating his belief that “a new Nigeria is possible.”
