Anambra Police Arrest Notorious Gun Supplier and Rescue Two Victims of Sexual Assault

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 42-year-old suspect, Friday Emenike, alias Ekpo, accused of renting firearms to criminals for illegal operations. Emenike, who hails from Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was arrested following confessions from previously detained suspects.

On December 7, 2024, police operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugu Ukwu conducted a raid on a black spot in Umunaga Village, Awka South Local Government Area, based on credible intelligence. During the operation, two suspects, Okechukwu Chinwuko (27) and Ezenwa Chinedu (22), were arrested. Items recovered from the scene included a pump-action gun, three live cartridges, a cutlass, criminal charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs. Additionally, two female victims, who were allegedly sexually assaulted by the suspects, were rescued.

During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they rented their firearms from Emenike, leading to his swift arrest by the police.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, investigations are ongoing, and the case will be charged to court upon completion. The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents while maintaining a zero-tolerance policy for criminal activities within the state.

The command also commended its operatives for their swift response and urged the public to provide timely information to aid in crime prevention and enforcement.
