The Member Representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu, has called on Christians all over the world to imbibe the spirit of love and sacrifice to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, as it is a virtue that guides the principles of life.

Hon. Atu made the call in Enugu on Tuesday during an interaction with newsmen while sharing Christmas gifts that included foodstuffs, amongst other items, to his constituents.

He stated that Christmas is a time that requires reflection on the way we do things as Christians, especially how we treat and relate with one another.

He posited that the happiness felt by the world during the birth of Jesus Christ should always be maintained amongst Christians and people from other religious beliefs as a way of building the society; adding that there is a need for the exchange of love during this period, especially to the less privileged.

According to Hon. Atu, “Christmas is a day set aside by Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ. If you look deeply, you will understand that the real essence of Christmas is to remind all of us of the need to make endless sacrifices and love one another.
“These are virtues that define the essence of the celebration and also reshape life for everybody. We must inculcate the spirit of giving to the less privileged in the society as a way of replicating the love and happiness felt by the world when Jesus Christ was born.”

On his gesture of sharing gifts, food, and other valuables every Christmas, Hon. Atu stressed that such behavior is the reason for the season.
He also stated that even before becoming a political figure in the nation, it had always been part of his personal decision to help the needy and put smiles on the faces of many.

“Sharing of gifts, food, and other items, which I do every Christmas period, is what I see as the reason for the season. It is to remind everyone that the season is about paying attention to people within our environment and showing them that they are loved. When that is done, it is Christmas. I have been doing this for long before I even became a political figure in the country. So, doing it now isn’t a problem because it has become part of me. You can see the joy and happiness on the faces of my people after getting these gifts, and imagine what it would have become without it. Making people happy is the reason for the season.”

The lawmaker also advised Christians and the people of Enugu North and South Federal Constituency to celebrate the period moderately, as there is life after Christmas.

“While we celebrate, let’s be mindful that there is life after Christmas. More celebrations will come, and you have opportunities to reach out the way you want. This is not the only Christmas, so we must be careful with how we spend, what we eat, and how we do things. Christmas is a yearly thing, and one who didn’t get it to his taste this year can get it right the next year. As Christians, Christ always tells us to be meticulous with how we live our lives. We must jettison attitudes that will likely put us into trouble.”
