No fewer than 110 newly promoted officers of the Nigerian Police Force, serving in Anambra State have been decorated with their new ranks.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam performed the function at the Command ‘s headquarters Amwabia and was assisted by other senior police officers.
The event, which was graced by dignitaries, family members, colleagues, friends and well wishers, saw the promoted officers decorated to different ranks.
Out of the 110 decorated officers, 66 Assistant Superintendents of Police were promoted to Deputy Superintendents of Police, 24 Deputy Superintendents of Police were promoted to Superintendents of Police, while 20 Superintendents of Police were promoted to Chief Superintendents of Police
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, Mr. Felix Garuba who spoke on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, said promotion comes from God and urged the newly promoted officers to use their new ranks judiciously to inspire their junior ones, and work within the ethics of the profession.
“Most of you were promoted from SP to CSP, DSP to SP, ASP to DSP. Those promoted to CSP are now federal chiefs even if you are not a Chief in your village. You are Chief Superintendent of Police. So you carry your shoulder high. Even if you retire as CSP, you are highly recognised.
“First and foremost, the promotion was signed by either chairman or Secretary of Police Service Commission. Other previous promotions were signed by the Inspector General of Police.”
DCP Garuba urged them to live above the ranks and be good ambassadors of the Police Force bearing in mind that new responsibilities have been added onto them.
Responding on behalf of other promotees, a Superintendent of Police who was promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP Andy Jokpeyibo, thanked God for the privilege and assured that they will use their new positions to advance the course of police force in Anambra State and beyond.
Earlier, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga explained that the promotion exercise was done last year nationwide and approved by the Police Service Commission, adding that the Nigeria Police Zone 13 Ukpo had already done the decoration exercise before the State Police Command.
