Sen. Ned Nwoko Set To Defect To APC Party

The lawmaker representing Delta North in the Senate, Ned Nwoko, is set to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The senator will leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Nwoko’s defection from the APC means the APC would have all three senators in the state in its fold.

The senators representing Delta Central and Delta South senatorial districts won their seats on the platform of APC in the 2023 elections.

Nwoko’s relationship with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the governor’s predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has been strained of late. This is allegedly due to the marginalization of Nwoko and his constituency by the governor, who is said to prioritize the interests of his godfather, Okowa

Okowa who ran on a joint ticket with Atiku Abubakar in a failed presidential bid in 2023, is reportedly eyeing the Delta North senatorial seat, currently occupied by Nwoko, in the coming 2027 election.

The former governor was arrested in November 2024 for allegedly diverting N1.3 trillion in derivation funds from the federation account between 2015 and 2023. Although he was later released, his travel documents were seized.
